The air is thick with the scent of damp earth, creating an atmosphere of quiet anticipation.

Calm Before the Storm
In the sultry summer air of New Orleans, the heat is not just a temperature, but a living element of the city. Afternoon thunderstorms were already building in the distance, ever present in the deep south. On Charles Avenue, the raised Creole cottages stand prominent in a wash of muted colors, worn from the brutal and hazy air. The French Quarter, a timeless masterpiece, invites visitors to step back in time and immerse themselves in a world of enchantment and intrigue.

Waiting to Rest
The once-mighty ferry, a veteran of countless crossings, now rests in weary repose. Its hull, worn and scarred from years of battling the tumultuous waters of Puget Sound, bears witness to countless storms and tempests. The weathered paint peels away, revealing layers of history beneath. As the tide ebbs and flows, the ferry remains steadfast, a silent sentinel guarding the harbor. Its final voyage is imminent, a journey to the scrapyard where it will be dismantled, piece by piece. Until then, it stands as a poignant reminder of the passage of time and the impermanence of all things.

Holding On

St. Louis Cemetery no. 1

As the sun begins to set, casting long shadows across the cemetery grounds, the air is filled with a sense of mystery and intrigue. The towering tombs, adorned with intricate carvings and inscriptions, seem to whisper tales of the past, their secrets locked away within the walls of time.

Buzzin' Around

The Snowy Steeple
The typical bustle of a small Georgia town was halted during a rare January snow storm, turning into a ghost town. The morning was quiet, almost aery, as the town stayed hidden from the unfamiliar conditions. Against the gray hues of the snow, a sturdy beacon of red brick stood tall. The church’s steeple reached towards the heavens and embraced the snowy landscape. The snow clung to the church’s architecture, outlining the building in a delicate tracery of white, softening its edges, and lending it an elegant quality for those that braved the weather and travelled nearby.

Resilience of a Pansy
In the dark, frigid months of winter, defiant pansies splash their colors against the cold, gray surroundings. There is a quiet strength in this small bloom, a testament to nature’s persistent heartbeat, even when all other colors have faded. Raindrops clung to this vibrant pansy as the recent rain turned to an icy landscape, but still the stubborn pansy shined brightly in the square of Marietta. Late January can be a dark time for many, but this pansy demonstrates the resilient mentality nature has against those challenging times.

Time Stands Still
The thick, humid air hangs heavy in the New Orleans’ Cemetery. Tombs, weathered and aged, dominate the atmosphere with history. Life stubbornly clings to the monument of death. Vibrant ferns sprout from crevices of the tombs. They burst forth from the stone, a defiant celebration of life amidst the decay of fleeting memories. The cemetery represents a place for reflection, for contemplation, a space where the veil between life and the departed feels thin. Echoes of the past resonate in the stillness of life.

Passing Through
The weary ferry sliced silently through the morning fog. A thick, eternal fog draped the world in a soft blanket, muting colors and turning the seascape into an impressionable painting of gray hues. The hum of the ferry, and lapping of water, created a song of solitude calling out to the groaning of the fog horns in the distance. This deep, mournful song guided our way through the eternally gray painted Pacific Northwest. Not knowing where the sky ended and the water began.
